Maroto Tobias scores twice, but men drop 4-2 decision to Emory

Atlanta, GA. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team scored the first two goals of the game in the first half, but the Judges allowed host Emory to score four unanswered goals – the last two after Brandeis had gone a man down – as the Eagles picked up a 4-2 University Athletic Association win today.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges went up, 2-0, within the first thirty minutes of the match.
  • Brandeis senior transfer Sancho Maroto Tobias (Acton, Mass. / Lexington) put away the first of the two goals in the twenty-fifth minute back-heeling a perfectly-timed corner kick by first-year Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass. / Acton-Boxborough Regional).
  • The Judges' second goal was scored three minutes later by Moroto-Tobias again, assisted by junior Max Horowitz (Swansea, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) and sophomore Toby Marwell (New York, N.Y. / Hunter Science).
  • Emory went on to put one away in the thirty-sixth minute to keep themselves in it just before the half.
  • The Eagles started the second half flying right out of the gate, tying the match just 1:22 into the stanza.
  • Brandeis was on the back foot after receiving a red card in the 52nd minute. Emory scored the game-winning goal shortly after Brandeis went a man down, then added an insurance goal in the 87th minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandeis had the shooting edge in the first half, 13-8, but allowed a greater attack in the second half with Emory leading in shots, 13-15.
  • The Judges were whistled for 12 fouls to 9 for the Eagles.
  • Brandeis senior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) saved nine of the thirteen shots faced, equaling Emory goalkeeper, Kiernan Skelly.

  • Brandeis faces Saint Josephs (Maine) at 2:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 22, in their non-conference finale.
