Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – In a showdown of cross-town foes, the Brandeis men's tennis team defeated visiting Bentley University, 5-2, in a match played with Division II rules. The Judges improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 2-4.

Brandeis got out to an early lead by taking the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3. The #2 tandem of senior Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J. / Phillips Andover) and junior Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) blanked their opponents, 6-0, and senior Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) and sophomore Simon Kaupilla (Chesterfield, Mo. / Marquette) clinched the point with a 6-1 win at #3. Bentley picked up a win at #1, with Daniel Weitz and Max Bonte prevailing, 6-4. Doubles matches were played outdoors at the Cordish Tennis Center before rain set in.

In singles action, senior Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I. / Moses Brown School) also played, and won, outdoors, taking the #6 match, 6-2, 6-2. The remaining matches were moved indoors to the Gosman Athletic Center because of the weather. The change of venue didn't slow down rookie Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./North Shore), who raced past his opponent, 6-1, 6-0, at #5.

Bentley got on the board at #4, where Jordan Soifer outlasted Tegtmeier, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, with the third set being a super-tiebreaker. That allowed Coramutla to clinch the victory at #1, winning a pair of tight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Bonte completed a 2-0 day for the visitors with a three-set win at #2, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, while Brandeis's Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill. / New Trier) finished the scoring at #3 with a 6-3, 6-0, win.

The Judges return to action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to western Massachusetts to visit Williams College.
