#5/6 Men's Soccer finishes strong with 3-0 win over NYU

Box Score

Waltham, Mass. - The Brandeis University men's soccer team finished its 2015 regular season on a high note, defeating rival New York University, 3-0, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Gordon Field. It was the final regular-season match for the Judges, who will find out their playoff seeding Monday at 1:30 on NCAA.com.

HOW THE GOALS HAPPENED

  • In the 35th minute, freshman Joshua Handler (Oakdale, Conn./Montville) dribbled around his defender and sent a cross from near the right corner into the box. Junior Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), waiting near the left post, deposited the ball into the net for the second goal of the year.

  • In the 81st minute, junior Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks School) scored off a volley from a blocked shot by sophomore Brandon Miskin (Needham, Mass/Worcester Acad.) in the box to give the Judges breathing room. It was Vieira's fourth goal of the season.

  • The Judges further put the game away in the 86th minute when junior Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Acad.) fired a shot from near the top of the box past the outstretched arms of the keeper, off a pass from midfield from classmate Josh Berg (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).

  • Brandeis senior Kenn Fryer (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep) made one save and recorded his fifth shutout of the season. NYU's Lucas Doucette had six stops in the losing effort, including two diving stops.
