Waltham, Mass. - The No. 3/8 Brandeis University men's soccer team played MIT to a scoreless draw, 0-0, in double overtime this evening at Gordon Field. The Judges are now 9-1-1, while the Engineers are 8-1-1.
Judges sophomore goalkeeper Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./ Suffield) had four saves. MIT senior keeper Jake Amereno (Commack,N.Y./ Commack) had six stops, including a diving save on a laser from Brandeis sophomore Patrick Flahive (Glenwood, Ill./ Worcester Acad.) in the 103rd minute.
The best scoring chance for the Judges came in the 98th minute when a strike by sophomore Christian Hernandez (Revere, Mass./ Lawrence Acad.) from the edge of the box sailed just wide of the left post.
The Engineers' best opportunity came in the 79th minute on a 30-yard blast from senior Austin Freel (San Diego, Calif./ Torrey Pines) that grazed the crossbar before falling out of bounds.
In the first half, Woodhouse made a fine leaping save, reaching to tip a shot by Freel over the net.
Brandeis had the advantage in shots, 19-15, including 6-4 in shots on goal, and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The next game for the Judges is Sunday, October 11 at Case Western Reserve at 1:30 p.m. The men return to Gordon Field to host Mass. Maritime Tuesday, October 13, at 7 p.m.
