Milo wins at No. 1, but men's tennis falls to DI Bryant, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team fell to 1-1 in out-of-division matches today with a 6-1 loss at the hands of Division I Bryant University. The Judges move to 6-8 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-9.

Brandeis picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles thanks to the tandem of rookie Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) and sophomore Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.), but it was not reflected in the score. The match was played under Division I rules, which counts doubles as a best-of-three for one point, and Bryant claimed wins at No. 1 and 2.

In singles action, senior Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) continued his fine season with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory for his team-best 11th win of the season. The Bulldogs picked up straight-set wins in the rest of the singles matches, with junior Matthew Zuckerman (Valley Stream, N.Y. / George W. Hewlett) giving a tough fight in the first set before falling, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 5.

The Judges close out the home portion of their season on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Clark University.
