PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team took a point
in doubles action from top-seeded and second-ranked Washington
University, but the Bears won all three singles matches that
reached completion to earn a 5-1 victory in the University Athletic
Association tournament semifinals. The Judges will take on host
Carnegie Mellon University tomorrow at 9 a.m. at The Club Life in
the third-place match. Brandeis is already assured of its highest
finish in under the tenure of head coach Ben
Lamanna.
Taking on the defending UAA champions, Brandeis earned their
lone point with a tremendous showing at second doubles. Rookies
Steven Milo (Syosset, N.Y./Woodbury) and
David Yovanoff (Eden, N.J./Eden) forced Washington
senior John Watts and rookie Kareem Farah - ranked 11th in the
Central region - to a tie-breaker, where the Judges took an 8-6
decision to earn the 9-8 victory. Milo, who played third singles as
well, had the Judges' only set win in singles action, splitting
with Bear rookie Adam Putterman, 1-6, 6-2, before the match was
decided. As the contest was played indoors, it was played only to
decision.
The Judges head into their season finale tomorrow with a 9-9
record, while Washington University improves to 15-3 on the
campaign.
