WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University men's tennis team had
little trouble this afternoon as they dispatched the United States
Coast Guard Academy, 9-0. The Judges dropped just one set,
including a pair of 6-0, 6-0, victories.
Rookie Eric Shyu (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck
South) led the romp for the Judges by losing just one game in his
two matches. Shyu and junior transfer Nick White
(Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) were 8-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Shyu then went on to sweep his foe at No. 5 singles. Senior captain
Seth Rogers (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) clinched
the match at No. 6 singles with another 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Rookie Fred Rozenshteyn (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair
Lawn) also won both his matches on the afternoon, with an 8-3
victory at No. 2 doubles with sophomore Mike
Tatarsky (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), and a 6-1, 6-2, win
at No. 3 singles. Simon Miller (Plantation,
Fla./Plantation) and Steven Nieman (Forest Hills,
N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) were 8-3 winners at No. 1, and Miller had
the toughest singles match at No. 1. Sophomore Nick Martin (State
College, Pa.) took the first set off Miller, 6-3, but the Brandeis
junior rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set before taking the
third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Judges are through with dual matches until the spring, but
they will participate in Bates College's James Wallach Invitational
this weekend in Lewiston, Maine.
