CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Rookie forward Izabella
Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.) came off the bench to record a
goal and an assist and four different Judges found the back of the
net as the as the Brandeis women's soccer team defeated MIT, 4-0,
in the season opener for both teams today.
Brandeis (1-0) got the only goal they would need in the 14th
minute when rookie midfielder Alanna Torre
(Weston, Fla.) headed home a corner kick off the foot of sophomore
back Taryn Martiniello (Wilmington, Mass.).
Sophomore midfielder Sofia Vallone (Westport,
Conn.) doubled the lead just under 15 minutes later when she put
Miranda's cross into the right side of the MIT net.
Sophomore forward Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth,
Mass.) scored the Judges' third goal just 44 seconds into the
second half, while Miranda tallied her first collegiate goal in the
58th minute, when she converted a cross from junior midfielder
Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.J.). Gorenkoff's
assist was the only point by a Brandeis upperclassman on the day.

Engineers in the losing effort, while junior Hillary
Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) and senior Natasha
