WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior forward Ben Premo
(Florence, Mass.) notched his fourth career hat trick today to lead
the Brandeis University men's soccer team past visiting Endicott
College, 5-0, in the season opener for both teams today.
Brandeis (1-0) wasted little time
in getting on the board, as rookie Luke Teece
(Tuscon, Ariz.) fed Premo inside the box just 3:52 into the
contest, and the senior finished with a hard shot to the left side
of the net. Teece picked up a second assist less than five minutes
later when his cross went through the goal mouth to junior
Patrick Metelus (Pernier, Haiti), who converted at
the 8:44 mark.
Premo scored his second goal 3:29
into the second half, when he sent junior Corey
Bradley's (Holyoke, Mass.) cross into the crossbar, then
put back his own rebound. It was the 30th goal of
Premo's career, making him the eight player in Brandeis history to
reach that milestone. An unassisted blast in the 73rd
minute gave Premo the hat trick and made him the ninth Judge to
reach 80 career points. His six points on the day moved Premo past
Ken Hannan '95 and Greg Allen '86 into eight place on the Judges'
career scoring list with 81 points.
Rookie Alexander
Farr (Nahant, Mass.) converted a scrum off a corner kick
in the 82nd minute to close out the scoring with his
first collegiate goal.
Endicott (0-1) rookie goalkeeper
Nicholas Allman (Newburyport, Mass.) made seven
saves, including six in the second half, in the losing effort for
the Gulls. Junior Taylor Bracken (No. Andover,
Mass.) and rookie Sean O'Hare (Southampton, Mass.)
had two saves in a half of work each for the Judges.
Brandeis is next in action on Thursday against Wentworth
Institute of Technology, while Endicott hosts MIT on Tuesday in
their home opener.
