Men get back in win column, 2-0, against Suffolk

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team scored once in each half tonight, part of an overwhelming 24-5 shooting advantage as the Judges defeated visiting Suffolk University, 2-0, on Gordon Field.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 3-4-2.
  • Suffolk, 5-2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges opened strong, outshooting the Rams, 15-12, in the first half.
  • Brandeis broke the ice in the 23rd minute. After winning the ball in midfield and moving it through the back of the defense, the ball came to senior Keller Chamovitz (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley).
  • Chamovitz played the ball forward through the middle, and first-year Gavin Foley (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) touched it forward to spring junior Kaito Shinoda (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) open on the right side of the box. Shinoda took a touch and blasted it past the Suffolk goalkeeper for his first collegiate goal.
  • Early in the second half in the 50th minute, the Judges got an insurance goal. A long ball from the back came to graduate student Joaquin Sanchez-Korenfeld (Santiago, Chile/Northwood School, N.Y.). He dribbled into the box and sent a ball towards the net. Junior Jacob Morse (Framingham, Mass./St. George's School, R.I.) beat the onrushing Ram netminder to ball and slammed it home for his second goal of the campaign.
  • That was all the Judges needed, as they held Suffolk without a shot on goal, allowing sophomore Sotiri Tiglianidis (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) to register a shutout in his first collegiate start.
  • Suffolk's Nathan Harlow made nine stops in the losing effort.
