ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped its first two University Athletic Association matches of the season today at the University of Rochester. The Judges lost a 3-0 match to NYU to open the weekend (25-11, 25-19, 25-17), then fell to #8 Washington University, also by a 3-0 score (25-21, 25-17, 25-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs NYU (25-11, 25-19, 25-17)
- NYU rolled to a first set win, 25-11, after scoring 11-straight points following a 4-2 start by Brandeis to start the match.
- The second set featured seven ties and three lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points in the early going, and Brandeis took its latest lead at 12-11 on an NYU service error.
- The Violets answered with a 7-2 run to go ahead, 18-14, and they never looked back, winning, 25-19.
- NYU maintained momentum into the third set, winning the first six points en route to a 25-17 win.
- Brandeis junior Madison Haft-Abromovitch (Stratford, Conn./Rye Country Day School) had eight kills to pace the Judge offense, while classmate Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y./Frances Lewis) had 10 assists.
- Junior Taylor Lewis (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) topped the defense with nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs WASHU (25-21, 25-17, 25-10)
- Against the eighth-ranked Bears, the Judges' strongest set was the first. The set featured eight ties and five lead changes.
- Brandeis was ahead by three on a couple of occasions, once at 14-11 on a service ace by Haft-Abromovitch, and again at 17-14 on a kill by junior Kennedy Lilly (Atlanta, Ga./Eagle's Landing Christian Academy).
- WashU closed out the set with an 11-4 run. Brandeis held off the first set point before the Bears took the set, 25-21.
- The Judges got off to a scorching start in the second set, scoring the first seven points on the serve of senior Olivia Nirode (Keller, Texas/Keller). Haft-Abromovitch had two kills in the run, while Lilly had a kill and a block assist.
- The Bears responded with a 9-2 run of their own to tie things up at 9-all. After the Judges tied things at 10-all, WashU closed with a 15-7 run to take the 25-17 lead and a 2-0 lead.
- The third set was all WashU, who closed things out, 25-10.
- Haft-Abromovitch led the team with 11 kills, while first-year Camila Valenzuela (Winter Park, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) had 11 assists.
- Alexa Ho had 11 digs
