WALTHAM, Mass. – Three representatives from the #18-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team have been honored by the University Athletic Association with post-season accolades. First-year head coach
Alan Dubrovsky was shared UAA Coach of the Year honors, while sophomore
Daniel Shemesh of
Modiin, Israel, was named first-team All-UAA at first singles and junior
Pierce Garbett of
Coral Gables, Florida, earned a spot on the All-UAA second team for his play at second singles.
Dubrovsky led the Judges to a 13-7 record and fifth-place in the UAA in his first season at the helm. Dubrovsky took over a squad that was 9-8 a year ago and two years removed from a two-win season and guided them to their best finish at the UAA tournament since 2023. After falling to #6 Case Western Reserve University in the opening round, the Judges defeated #25 NYU, 4-2, in the consolation semifinals and upset #10 Washington University, 4-3, in the fifth-place match. Five of the team's seven losses came against opponents ranked among the top 15 in the ITA rankings, with another coming against a Division I opponent. Brandeis also had eight wins against Top 40 opponents this season. Dubrovsky is Brandeis's first UAA Men's Tennis Coach of the Year winner since 2019. He shared this year's award with the staff from conference champions Chicago.
Shemesh ended his season with a 12-5 record at #1 singles, and a team-best 19-6 overall record, including fall tournaments. Shemesh's defeats all came against opponents from top 15 teams, while he earned wins against opponents from then-#10 Washington University and then-#18 University of Redlands. Shemesh ended his regular season ranked #8 in the Northeast Regional rankings from the ITA and #20 in the nation. He is hopeful to earn a berth at the NCAA Division III Singles Championships later this month.
Garbett posted a team-high 14 singles wins in dual matches this season at #2. He went 14-6 in dual matches and 17-9 overall including the fall season. Garbett went 3-0 at the UAA tournament, earning the team's lone point against Case Western Reserve, then adding wins over NYU and Washington U. Garbett was 5-2 in three-set matches, coming from a set behind in four of those five wins, including both wins in conference tournament play.
Shemesh is a 2024 graduate of Ironi Hey School Modiin.
Garbett is a 2023 graduate of Gulliver Prep School.
