#20 men's tennis advances to UAA fifth-place match with 4-2 win over #25 NYU

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team picked up its second win over rivals NYU in the span of five days as the #20 Judges defeated the #25 Violets, 4-2, in the consolation semifinals of the 2026 University Athletic Association tournament at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

  • Brandeis: 12-7, ranked #20 in Division III by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • NYU: 9-6, ranked #25 in DIII by the ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NYU edged the Judges in doubles action, with the Violets taking #2 and #3 matches by 6-4 scores. Brandeis earned a win at #1, where first-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M./Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy) and sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hills, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) took a 6-3 decision.
  • In singles action, Brandeis responded by winning four of the five matches that completed. Junior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Secondary School), playing in just his second match over the past two weeks, made quick work of his opponent at #5, 6-2, 6-0.
  • Wang-Fan picked up his second win of the day at #6, 6-1, 7-6, but NYU tied the match at 2-all with a win at #3.
  • The Judges prevailed in the final two matches, coming from behind in both. Junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) earned his second win of the weekend at #2 singles, rallying from a set down for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win.
  • Lorenz delivered the clincher at #4, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, to complete a 2-0 day and advance the Judges to the fifth-place match at UAAs for the first time since 2023.

  • The Judges will take on #10-ranked Washington University tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the UAA tournament fifth-place match as they search for their best finish at the conference tournament since 2023.
