#28 women's tennis finishes weekend sweep with 6-1 win over Rochester

WALTHAM, Mass. – The #28-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team cruised past University Athletic Association foes from the University of Rochester today, 6-1, in a key matchup for conference tournament seeding.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 9-6, ranked #28 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • Rochester: 7-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges swept the doubles point, winning matches 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, from top to bottom.
  • In singles action, first-year Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla./IMG Academy) earned Brandeis's second double-bagel of the weekend at #5 to open the singles scoring.
  • First-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India/Cosmos Castle International School) followed with a 6-1, 6-2, win at #3, and junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #1.
  • Junior Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) posted a 6-3, 6-1, win at #2 to make it 5-0.
  • The final two matches both went three sets. Rochester got on the board at #6 with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 win in a super tiebreaker in the third. Senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai International Division) closed things out with a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-5 win for the 6-1 final.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will look to post a fourth-straight 10-win season when they meet Endicott College on Wednesday, April 15, at 3 p.m., on Senior Day.
