TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 7-6.
  • Coast Guard, 5-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1 (Coast Guard 6, Brandeis 0)
  • The Judges were held scoreless in the opener as Coast Guard combined strong pitching with aggressive hitting and baserunning to pull away early and maintain control throughout.
  • Coast Guard struck first in the opening inning, as Carson Cho walked, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single from Luke Percifield for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Bears added on in the second, as Drew Basque worked a walk and eventually scored on an RBI single by Isaac Hobbs to make it 2-0.
  • The game broke open in the third inning. Coast Guard loaded the bases with one out and capitalized, with Basque delivering a two-run single up the middle to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Despite scattered chances, the Judges could not generate momentum offensively. Brandeis managed just one baserunner through the first three innings against Coast Guard starter Raymond Priddy.
  • Coast Guard tacked on another run in the sixth with a solo home run from Cho, pushing the lead to 5-0.
  • Brandeis threatened in the sixth with back-to-back singles from junior Matt Chafin (Canton, Mass. Canton) and sophomore Colby Harrington (W. Springfield, Mass. W. Springfield), but Coast Guard responded with three consecutive outs to shut down the rally.
  • The Bears added an insurance run in the seventh, using two hit batters and a walk to load the bases before a double play brought home a run for the final margin.
  • Priddy earned the win for Coast Guard, tossing six shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out five. Tyler Michalek closed out the game with a scoreless seventh.
  • Junior pitcher Andrew Tringe (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) took the loss for Brandeis, falling to 1-2 on the season, with the bullpen of sophomore John Milewski (Framingham, Mass./Belmont Hill) and first-year Brady Ross (Rye, N.Y./Harrison) combining to allow three runs in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME TWO (Coast Guard 8, Brandeis 4)
  • The Judges fell behind early and could not complete a late comeback as Coast Guard used a big third inning and a decisive seventh to secure the sweep.
  • Coast Guard jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, stringing together three hits and a walk.
  • The Bears extended the lead in the third inning. After loading the bases, Kael Godshalk delivered a two-run ground-rule double to left center, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
  • Brandeis got on the board in the fourth. Sophomore Bobby Quill (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) singled and moved into scoring position before coming home on an RBI groundout by sophomore Keith Lee (Milford, Mass./Milford) to cut the deficit to 4-1.
  • Coast Guard added an unearned run in the sixth to make it 5-1, taking advantage of a Brandeis error and a double play that brought a run across.
  • The Judges responded with their biggest inning in the bottom half of the sixth. Sophomore Ben Kuja (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Harrington each singled to start the rally, and first-year Nolan Wanat (Eastham, Mass./Milton Acad.) followed with an RBI single. Junior Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) added another run-scoring hit, and junior Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) brought home a run on a fielder's choice to pull Brandeis within 5-4.
  • However, Coast Guard answered immediately in the seventh. The Bears loaded the bases and drew back-to-back RBI walks before adding a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-4.
  • Brandeis put a runner on in the seventh on a Lee single, but could not continue the rally as Coast Guard closed out the game.
  • Harrington and Kuja each had two hits to lead the Judges, while Wanat and Walsh each drove in a run during the sixth-inning rally.
  • First-year Jackson Herzog (New York, N.Y./Dalton School) took the loss for Brandeis, bringing his record to 2-1 on the season, pitching just over 2 innings, while junior Dimitri Skourides (Arlington, Mass./Winchendon School) provided solid relief, allowing just one earned run over 3.2 innings with five strikeouts.
