HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1 (Brandeis, 11-6)
  • First-year Madeline Jennings (New York, N.Y. / Beacon) started for Brandeis, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Jamie Staub (Lawrenceville, N.J. / Hun School) entered in relief and earned her second win of the season, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.
  • Brandeis opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Senior Erin Hunt (Wake Forest, N.C. / Franklin Academy) led off with a triple to left center and came home on an RBI single up the middle by first-year Taryn Rainey (Huntley, Ill. / Huntley). Later in the inning, sophomore Dylan Yamamura (Newbury Park, Calif. / Newbury Park) delivered an RBI single to score junior Brooke Boehmer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon), giving the Judges an early 2–0 lead.
  • Wentworth answered in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3–2 advantage. The Leopards added another run in the third inning to extend their lead to 4–2.
  • The Judges responded with a big rally in the fifth inning. After Rainey reached base and first-year Alexa Johnson (La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) entered as a pinch runner and stole second, senior Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) blasted a three-run home run to center field to give Brandeis the lead. The Judges added two more runs in the frame, including one scoring on an error and another on a passed ball, to take a 7–4 advantage.
  • Brandeis continued to add on in the sixth inning. Burdenski doubled down the left-field line to drive in Boehmer, and Yamamura followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 9–4.
  • Wentworth scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, but the Judges answered again in the seventh. Sophomore Jordan Wallace (Howell, N.J. / Choate Rosemary Hall, Conn.) brought home a run with a sacrifice fly, and Burdenski added her fifth RBI of the game with a single to left to cap the scoring.
  • Burdenski led the offense with a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two runs scored. It was Burdenski's 16th career home run and her first of the season.
  • First-year Mia Deck (Laguna Hills, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic) added three hits, while Rainey and Yamamura each contributed two hits as the Judges finished with 15 hits in the 11–6 victory.

  • The Judges wasted no time getting the offense going, exploding for seven runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning. Hunt started the rally with a single and a stolen base, and Rainey followed with a double. Wallace delivered the big swing of the inning, launching a grand slam to center field to give Brandeis a quick 4–0 lead.
  • The Judges continued to pile on, with junior Katie Baydian (Massapequa, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy Acad.) adding an RBI single and Hunt driving in another run later in the frame. Boehmer capped the inning with an RBI walk to make it 7–0.
  • Brandeis added three more runs in the second inning to extend the advantage to 10–0. Sophomore Maddie Manes (San Clemente, Calif. / San Juan Hills) delivered a two-run double to right center, and another run came home on a wild pitch later in the inning.
  • Wentworth responded in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to cut the deficit to 10–7.
  • However, the Judges regained some breathing room with three runs in the sixth inning. First-year Cae Pellegrini (Milford, Mass. / Milford) drove in a run with a single, Wallace followed with an RBI single of her own, and another run scored on an error to stretch the lead to 13–7.
  • The Leopards continued to chip away with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, but the strong early offense from the Judges kept them securely in the lead to win 13-9.
