Baseball sees streak snapped at Springfield, 10-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team got off to a promising start in search of their seventh-straight win, but the host Springfield College Pride scored seven unanswered runs to defeat the Judges, 10-7, today.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 6-1.
  • Springfield, 6-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore LF Ben Kuja (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) got the Judges off to a quick start in the first inning, driving in a run with a triple to right-center and scoring on an infield grounder.
  • The Pride's Tyler Casey got one run back in the bottom of the frame, with a one-out double and a steal of third, coming home on a grounder to short.
  • Brandeis scored two more runs each in the third and fourth innings.
  • In the third, junior DH Henry Aronwald (Rye Brook, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) hit a two-run home run, his first of the season and the sixth of his career.
  • In the fourth, sophomore RF Bobby Quill (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) and classmate 1B Danny Tambascia (Newton, Mass./Newton North) produced RBI to make it 6-1.
  • The Pride took advantage of wildness from the Judges in the bottom of the frame, scoring twice on five walks against two Brandeis pitchers.
  • Junior 2B Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) tripled to lead off the fifth, scoring two batters later to give Brandeis a 7-3 lead, but that would be the Judges' last run of the game.
  • SC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on four hits, with RF Adam Crocker singling to left to tie things up.
  • The Judges loaded the bases on two walks and an error in the top of the sixth, but Springfield got a 1-2-3 double play to escape the jam.
  • The hosts took advantage in the bottom of the frame, turning a one-out single into a run on a failed pickoff attempt, a flyout and a wild pitch. They tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
