BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team used a pair of big innings, highlighted by a grand slam from sophomore

TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 6-0.
- Mass. Maritime, 3-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three scoreless frames, the Judges broke the ice in the fourth without a hit. First-year SS Noah Koong (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake) drew a two-out walk, then went all the way to third on a wild pitch. Quill followed with a grounder to short that saw the throw pull the first baseman off the bag, allowing Koong to score.
- Brandeis broke things open in the fifth, scoring six runs on four hits and three walks. Sophomore catcher Keith Lee (Milford, Mass./Milford) had a two-run single to give Brandeis a 3-0 lead. After an out, a single and a walk, Quill delivered his big blow, a grand slam to right-center field.
- The homer was Quill's second of the season and of his career.
- Brandeis junior Dimitri Skourides (Arlington, Mass. / Winchendon School) was in control through five innings, tossing his second-straight scoreless start. Skourides gave up three hits and struck out five with three walks. He improved to 2-0 on the season.
- First-year Jackson Herzog (New York, N.Y. / Dalton School) threw the final three innings, allowing three runs to the Buccaneers in the bottom of the eighth. He gave up three hits, including a three-run home run to Jake Duffy. With his three-inning stint, Herzog earned his first collegiate save.
- Brandeis erupted for seven runs on four hits and four walks plus an MMA error before the game was called due to darkness and fog. The biggest blow of the inning was a pinch two-run triple by sophomore Colby Harrington (W. Springfield, Mass. / W. Springfield) that provided the final 14-3 margin.
