Women's soccer earns first UAA point with 2-2 draw against #16 Rochester on Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team earned its first point in University Athletic Association play, as the Judges got off to a fast start but saw #16 University of Rochester rally for a 2-2 draw as Brandeis celebrated its Senior Day.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 7-4-2, 0-2-1 UAA.
  • Rochester, 8-1-4, 0-1-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges wasted little time jumping in front, scoring just 91 seconds into the contest.
  • On an early corner kick, first-year Ella Kauffman (E. Greenwich, R.I. / E. Greenwich) played the ball into the box, and sophomore Kira Pevow (Houston, Texas / Emery-Weiner Schools) headed it through to senior Zareena Mann (San Ramon, Calif./California), who buried it for her third goal of the season.
  • The Judges and Yellowjackets were even for the rest of the half, with the visitors owning a slim 7-5 advantage in shots.
  • Rochester turned up the pressure in the second half, when they outshot Brandeis, 16-4, but the Judges were able to find the back of the net first, when sophomore Grace Carman (Chicago, Ill. / Lane Tech) found streaking senior Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India / Indus International School) down the right side in the 69th minute.
  • Raju dribbled into the 16-yard box and buried a goal into the left netting for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
  • Rochester never let up the pressure and eventually broke through just four minutes later in the 73rd minute. Eileen Harvey played a ball to the right side of the box to Madeline Waffner, and Sydney Holmes was there to bury Haffner's cross.
  • UR got an equalizer in the 84th minute, when a short corner played to Natalie Santangelo was sent home by Remi Cherkas for her first goal of the season.
  • Brandeis senior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside) made eight saves – five coming in the second half - to earn the tie, while Rochester's Eleni McGuire had five stops.
