ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis University volleyball team nearly completed a comeback from a 2-0 deficit before falling in five sets to Case Western Reserve University, then dropped three sets to #9-ranked and defending conference champions Emory on the first day of action at the first 2025 University Athletic Association Round Robin hosted by the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS CWRU (16-25, 20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 9-15)
- The Brandeis offense had trouble getting on track in the first two sets, recording 15 kills with 11 errors while CWRU had 21 kills and nine errors as they took a 2-0 lead.
- Brandeis battled back in the next two sets, recovering with 30 kills to nine errors, while limiting the Spartans to 26 kills and 11 errors.
- In the fourth set, the Judges trailed, 22-18 before battling back to tie things at 22-all, thanks to a block and a kill from first-year Claudia Aber (Los Angeles, Calif./Taft Charter School) in the 4-0 stretch. Case stopped the momentum briefly, but a service error and a kill by senior Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) gave Brandeis set point.
- The Spartans fought off the Judges' first two attempts to force a fifth set, but sophomore Madison Haft-Abromovitch (Stratford, Conn./Rye Country Day School) put things away to give Brandeis a 27-25 win.
- Brandeis won the first two points of the fifth, but CWRU won four in a row to take the lead. After trading points, the Spartans went on a 5-1 run to take a 10-6 lead that they extended to 8-2 to make it 13-7 before closing out the fifth, 15-9.
- Brandeis fell despite a match-high 23 kills from Ertischek, who also led all players with four service aces.
- Aber had six blocks (one solo) and first-year Lara Demoraes (Plantation, Fla./Cypress Bay) had 29 digs, doubling her career-high. Senior Julia Liang (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) added 34 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. EMORY (10-25, 20-25, 17-25)
- The Eagles showed why they are a top-10 team in Division III this season, holding the Judges to just three kills and 10 points in the opening set.
- The Eagles outhit the Judges, .388 (45 kills, 12 errors, 85 total attacks) to .164 (21 K-10 E-67 TA).
- Emory held Ertischek to single digits in kills for just the third time all season with a team-high eight.
- Demoraes had three aces and team-high eight digs. Aber added a match0high four blocks as Brandeis's net play produced six blocks to just three for Emory.
- Liang dealt out 17 assists.
