WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University volleyball senior
Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) became the 11
th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills tonight as the Judges dropped a four-set decision to Tufts University. Set scores were 19-25, 16-25, 25-19, 16-25.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 5-7.
- Tufts: 9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ertischek reached the milestone kill with her first of the third set, which made the score 11-8 in favor of the Judges as they went on to take the stanza.
- She is the Judges' first 1,000-point kill player since last season, when Lara Verstovsek '25 achieved the feat.
- Ertischek finished with a match-high 14 kills to finish the day with 1,008 for her career, putting her 11th all-time.
- Unfortunately for the Judges, no other player was able to get into double figures in kills, with sophomore Madison Haft-Abromovitch (Stratford, Conn./Rye Country Day School) coming in second on the squad with eight.
- Tufts rolled to the first two sets, outhitting Brandeis .367 to .103 in the first and .370 to .107 in the second to win by scores of 25-19 and 25-16.
- Brandeis rallied to take the third, outhitting Tufts, .357 to .139, to earn a 25-18 victory, but the Jumbos returned to form in the fourth, winning 25-16 as they hit .357 to Brandeis's .029.
- Tufts owned a 12-5 advantage in service aces and 5-2 in blocks.
- Sophomore Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) recorded a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.
- Juniors Ava Ferrigno (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community) and Olivia Nirode (Keller, Texas/Keller) also had 10 digs for the Judges on defense. Haft-Abromovitch had two blocks to pace the net defense.
