Men's soccer earns 1-1 draw with MIT on late PK

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Brandeis University men's soccer team came from behind to tie the game in the final 10 minutes today, resulting in a 1-1 draw against MIT on the road at Roberts Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite the Engineers outshooting the Judges, 6-4, through the first 45 minutes, Brandeis goalie Tyler Correnti (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) made 4 saves to keep it scoreless at halftime.
  • Midway through the second half, Keegan Harrison put MIT on the board with his first goal of the season, assisted by Ethan Reich.
  • After another save by Correnti in the 79th minute, Brandeis battled it out to tie the game with six minutes left as the Engineers fouled junior Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) inside the penalty box. 
  • Senior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) scored on a penalty kick through the arms of goalie Paolo Mangiafico for his second goal of the season.
  • Both of Osselmann-Chai's goals this season have come on penalty kicks.
  • Correnti finished with five saves for the Judges, a season-best and one shy of his career-high, while MIT's Paolo Mangiafico had one stop. 
  • Today's draw keeps the Judges undefeated through their first 5 games of the season,
