BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Brandeis University volleyball team evened their match with Babson by winning the second set, but the host Beavers led from wire to wire in the third and fourth to take a 3-1 victory in Staake Gymnasium this afternoon. Set scores were 25-21, 17-25, 25-11, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was a back-and-forth affair. Neither team led by more than three points in the early going when the Beavers went ahead, 14-11.
- The Judges responded with a 6-1 run to take a 17-15 lead. After a pair of 3-0 runs from both teams, Brandeis owned a 20-18 lead after a block by sophomore Kay Menendez (Madrid, Spain / American School of Madrid).
- A service error gave the ball back to Babson, and the hosts responded by closing the first set on a 7-1 run to clinch it, 25-21.
- The Judges responded in the second by leading from start to finish thanks to their best offensive performance of the match. Brandeis had 12 kills and just two errors in 21 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage, while holding the Beavers to .148.
- Brandeis senior Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) notched five of the team's 12 kills in the set as Brandeis won it, 25-17.
- Babson responded by outscoring the Judges, 50-26, over the next two sets. The Beavers never trailed, winning the sets 25-11 and 25-15, to clinch the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ertischek paced the Brandeis offense with 11 kills, one shy of match-high honors. She also led the Judges with three of their four service aces, while adding nine digs on the defensive end, second-most on the team.
- Sophomore Kennedy Lilly (Atlanta, Ga./Eagle's Landing Christian Academy) added 10 kills, reaching double digits for the fifth time in seven matches. She hit for a .350 percentage (10 K-3 E-20 TA) and added two solo blocks.
- Menendez had five kills without an error in nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage while matching Lilly's two blocks (one solo).
- Senior Julia Liang (Sugar Land, Tex. / Clements) had 20 assists, and sophomore Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y. / Francis Lewis) added 11.
- First-year libero Lara Demoraes (Plantation, Fla. / Cypress Bay) led the defense with 11 digs.
- After Brandeis made just three attacking errors to Babson's 14 in the first two sets, the Beavers turned the match around by committing just four errors to 12 for the Judges in the second two sets.
- Brandeis owned a 6-4 edge in team blocks, but Babson's 14-4 edge in service aces also played a factor.
