WALTHAM, Mass. – In their first game as a ranked team this season, the #19 Brandeis University women's soccer team got a six-point performance from senior
Samantha Kipperman (Middlebury, Conn. / Pomperaug) as the Judges defeated visiting Clark University, 5-0, in a non-conference contest on Gordon Field.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 4-0-1, ranked #19 in Division III by United Soccer Coaches
- Clark, 2-1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kipperman was involved in four of the five Brandeis goals, scoring two and assisting two others.
- Her assist on a goal in the fifth minute by junior Ali Pennella (Stamford, Conn. / Greenwich) was all the Judges needed, as they recorded their third shutout in five games this season.
- Brandeis's second goal of the game came in the 32nd minute and was the only one not to involve Kipperman, as sophomore Emerson Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) slipped a ball through the Clark defense for classmate Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass. / Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) who converted her second goal of the season. Both players had come onto the field just moments earlier.
- After taking a 2-0 lead into the second half, the Judges wasted no time extending it, as first-year Grace Carman (Chicago, Ill. / Lane Tech) crossed the ball into the box on Kipperman's first goal of the evening, just 20 seconds into the stanza.
- Kipperman achieved the brace in the 53rd minute after finishing a cross from junior Lacey Mbugua (Brockton, Mass./Worcester Acad.), who earned a point for the fourth time in five games this season.
- The scoring ended in the 89th minute, when Kipperman's corner kick was touched from junior Zareena Mann (San Ramon, Calif. / California) to Leroy, who took over the team goal-scoring lead with her third of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges outshot Clark, 16-6, overall, and 8-4 in shots on goal. Brandeis also had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- Brandeis junior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla. / Creekside) made four saves, one shy of a season high. Clark's Gabrielle Huryn had three stops in the losing effort.
