WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis women's tennis coach Pauri Pandian has been elevated to the role of Director of Tennis for the Judges, Director of Athletics Jessica Chapin '10 announced today.

In his new role, Pandian will continue to serve as the head coach of women's tennis while serving as a mentor for the men's team and its new head coach. Pandian will provide strategic oversight and guidance, serving as a resource and support for both men's and women's tennis student-athletes and alumni. 

"This is a model we've been working toward for some time, and it aligns with successful structures at other top Division III programs," Chapin said. "This dual-leadership model allows us to expand our capacity, deepen our focus on each team, and continue elevating the overall experience for our student-athletes."

Pandian has served as Brandeis head women's tennis coach since 2019, with two of his players, Bhakti Parwani '25 and Rebecca Suarez '26, reaching the NCAA Division III Championships. He also served as the men's coach from 2019 through 2022, producing an NCAA tournament appearance and three All-Americans in that span.

"I'm excited to move into this new role as Director of Tennis," Pandian said. "Despite not coaching the men's team for the last three years, I've been its biggest fan and care deeply about the success of both programs. I'm looking forward to this next chapter of Brandeis tennis, and to strengthening the ties between the past, present, and future of Brandeis men's and women's tennis."

Pandian also served as an assistant coach of the Judges' men's and women's teams from 2011 through 2015, earning Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2015. From 2015 through 2019, he served as head men's and women's coach at Wheaton (Mass.) College. 

Pandian's first major undertaking as Director of Tennis will be to oversee a national search for the program's new men's tennis coach.
