ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – With two days left to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, the Brandeis University women's track and field team sent four Judges to the Augustana College Midwest Twilight Qualifier. Two school records were set and one spot at nationals significantly improved in advance of Thursday's midnight deadline for qualification.
LEROY CONTINUES 400-METER EXCELLENCE
- First-year Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) had the best individual performance of the day in the 400-meter dash.
- Leroy finished second at the meet with a time of 54.11 seconds. She set a personal and school record by more than a full second. Her previous best and school record was 55.36 seconds, a difference of a full 1.25 seconds behind her time today.
- Without the rest of this week's national results taken into account, Leroy's time is the fourth-fastest in Division III this season, which should be safe for qualification for her second career NCAA meet.
- Senior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) was 10th in the race with a personal-best time of 57.18 seconds.
4x100-METER RELAY LOWERS RECORD
- One of the two relays that was attempting to qualify for NCAAs was the 4x100 meters. Leroy ran the lead leg, with Bohbot-Dridi anchoring and first-years Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School) and Jazmin Berganza (Providence, R.I./Classical) running second and third.
- The team ran 47.59 seconds, becoming the first Brandeis quartet to run faster than 48 seconds and taking 0.55 seconds off the record set earlier this season.
- They finished in eighth place and are tentatively ranked 44th nationally.
4x400-METER RELAY FINISHES DAY
- The Judges wrapped up the day with the 4x400-meter relay. With the same four runners as the 4x100, they were unable to best their previous school record, finishing in 10th place with a time of 3:51.28.
- While their previous time of 3:49.69 is among the top 30 in Division III this season, only the top 16 relays are selected to nationals.
UP NEXT
- The Judges will send competitors to the MIT Final Qualifier tomorrow afternoon and evening before Friday's NCAA Championships field announcement.
