Sealy, Nugent reach triple jump podium on Day 2 of UAA Outdoor Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brandeis University track and field team saw a school record and conference title in the men's javelin by sophomore Sam Krause (New Orleans, La. / Isidore Newman) to highlight six All-University Athletic Association performances on Day 2 and eight overall at the 2025 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Brandeis women finished in sixth place in the team standings, while the men placed seventh overall.

KRAUSE WINS JAVELIN TITLE
  • Krause advanced to the javelin final round with a best throw of 54.14 meters in the prelims. In the second round, he unleashed the winning toss on his fifth overall attempt, reaching 59.04 meters (193 feet, 8 inches).
  • The throw was nearly five meters than Krauses' previous collegiate best of 54.69m.
  • Krause's throw obliterated the rest of the field by nearly 3.5 meters (12 feet) with a throw that is ranked 31st in Division III this season.
  • Krause is Brandeis's first All-UAA javelin thrower since 2019 and its first champion in the event since Mark Edwards '08 in 2006.
  • He broke a school record in the event that had stood since 1988, previously held by Tom Wallace '90. Krause's throw was 0.11 meters further than Wallace's.
WOMEN'S TRIPLE JUMP SUCCESS
  • The Brandeis women put two competitors on the podium in the triple jump.
  • First-year Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline Academy) finished second in the event with a distance of 12.46 meters (40 feet, 10 ½ inches), giving her a silver to go with her indoor gold.
  • The distance gave her a school record in the event, surpassing Brandeis Hall of Famer Eleena Zhelezov '95's performance from 1994. Her distance is the 21st-best in NCAA Division III history.
  • Junior Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) was third in the event with a distance of 11.87 meters (38 feet, 11 ¼ inches). Nugent placed second in the event last year.
  • Sealy is now ranked third in Division III, while Nugent is tied for 16th place. The top 22 are selected for the NCAA Championships.
  • It was the first time since 2011 that Brandeis had multiple All-UAA competitors in the same event, when Grayce Selig '11 and Marie Lemay '11 were second and third in the 1,500-meters.
MORE ALL-UAA PERFORMERS
  • Junior Aiana Colas (Strasbourg, France/Le Gymnase Jean Sturm) placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters (5 feet, 2 ¼ inches). Colas converted her only attempt on the day at 1.58 to earn second place on fewest attempts, but she was unable to clear 1.63. Brandeis hadn't had a high jump All-UAA performance since Lily Parenteau '13 in 2011.
  • Sophomore Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass / Concord-Carlisle Regional) joined Krause as a men's thrower on the podium, placing third in the discus throw with a heave of 41.65 meters (136 feet, 8 inches) on his first toss of the day.
  • Laurin's throw was two full meters than his previous career-best of 39.65. Brandeis's last All-Association performance in the discus came in 2019 from Scott Grote '19.
  • First-year Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) earned All-UAA honors in the 400-meter dash for the second season in a row. She ran a time of 56.37 seconds in the finals, edging a runner from WashU by 0.15 seconds.
  • Leroy was the only competitor from a school other than Emory or WashU to reach the finals in either the 200m or 400m dashes. She was the first Judge with All-UAA honors in the 400 since 2008 and Olivia Alford '08.
OTHER SCORING PERFORMANCES
  • Senior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.01, just about a second shy of third place.
  • Sealy added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.46 meters (17 feet, 11 inches).
  • Junior TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) was fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of  3:55.93, using a hard charge to come from 10th place in his heat to finish third, 0.01 ahead of the sixth place finisher and less than a hundredth behind fourth place.
  • Senior Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:35.57.
  • Senior Jordan Colon (Devens, Mass./Bromfield School) was seventh in qualifying in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds. He finished seventh in the finals as well, posting a time of 15.00 seconds.
  • The women's 4x400-meter relay took fourth place, as the squad of Leroy, first-year Jazmin Berganza (Providence, R.I. / Classical), Nugent and Bohbot-Dridi, ran 3:57.01.
  • The men's 4x100-meter relay placed fifth with a time of 43.46 seconds thanks to the team of Colon, junior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School), senior Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) and first-year Jaiden Banton (Kingston, Jamaica / Woodstock Acad.).
  • The 4x400-relay team was also fifth, as first-year Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass./Westborough), Carleo, Banton, and junior Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) ran 3:25.46.
TEAM RANKINGS
  • The women finished in sixth place at the championships with 63 points, just half a point behind Carnegie Mellon in fifth. It was the team's highest point total at UAAs since 2010.
  • The men placed seventh with 49 points, 12 behind host NYU. This was their highest point total since 2019.
  • Including their two from Day 1 of action, the Judges finished with eight All-Association performances, up from two a year ago.
