Baseball falls to Chicago, 13-2, in Game 3 of UAA series

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped the third game of their four-game University Athletic Association set with the University of Chicago, 13-2, today on Waltham's Yetten Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons outslugged the Judges with 16 hits to Brandeis's 7.
  • Eleven different Chicago players had hits, including all nine starters. 3B Michael Gladden led all players with three hits, going 3-5 with two RBI, 2 doubles, and three runs scored. He also stole one of three bases for the visitors.
  • Chicago scored runs in five of their seven at-bats, including a six-run third that saw 11 batters come to the plate. They also scored two runs each in the first, fifth and sixth frames with a final run in the seventh.
  • Brandeis saw sophomore 2B Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) go 2-2 with a double.
  • RBI came from rookie catcher Keith Lee (Milford, Mass./Milford) who singled home a run in the second inning, and classmate 3B Ben Kuja (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) who brought home a run with a ground out in the third.
  • On the mound, Brandeis grad student Eddie Zanor (Branford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) took the loss, allowing eight hits and eight runs in 2.2 innings, but only two of those runs were earned. He struck out two and walked one, falling to 0-3 on the season.
  • Chicago's Jackson Bailey improved to 3-0 on the season. He threw six innings of six-hit ball, allowing two earned runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. UC lefty Uday Narottam struck out the side in the seventh as the Maroons ended the game early thanks to the UAA's 10-run rule.

  • The Judges and Maroons will close out their four-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Yetten Field in Waltham instead of on campus.
