#27 women test #3 CMS before falling

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 27th-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team played several tightly-contested matches, but ultimately fell to third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 7-0, to close out their February break trip to California.

  • Brandeis, 0-3, ranked #27 in Division III by the ITA.
  • Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 2-0, ranked #3 in Division III by the ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CMS swept the doubles matches to earn the first point, but not without being tested by the Judges.
  • Senior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) came from 5-0 down at #2 before falling, 6-4, while junior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy) and sophomore Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) were down 4-1 at #1 before taking a 7-4 defeat. At #3, seniors Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) and Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) took their foes to a tiebreaker before suffering a 7-6 (7-4) defeat.
  • In singles action, the Athenas won handily at 2 and 5 to open up a 3-0 lead. Junior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai International Division) won her first set at #3 before going down, 6-0, 2-6, 0-6. First-year Charly Saltz (Natick, Mass./Learning Post Academy) pushed her opponent to a tiebreaker in the second set at #6, but ultimately lost, 3-6, 6-7 (3-7).
  • Sia lost her match at #4 by just a couple of games, 4-6, 5-7.
  • Parwani came closest to pulling out a win at #1, bouncing back from a first-set loss to force a third set super-tiebreaker, but she lost, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 8-10.
