WALTHAM, Mass. – The #5-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a 1–0 defeat to Carnegie Mellon University in University Athletic Association action Sunday morning at Gordon Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandeis had the upper hand in the first half, outshooting CMU, 11-4, but the Judges were unable to find the back of the net. Each team put one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
- Things tightened up in the second half, with Brandeis's shooting edge shrinking to 9-8.
- After a scoreless first 80 minutes, the Tartans' Dominic Hoar-Weiler broke through in the 82nd minute, converting off an assist from Mateas Fitzwilliam to give the Tartans the decisive goal.
- Brandeis outshot Carnegie Mellon 20–12 (both teams with 3 shots on goal), controlled the run of play and collected 9 corner kicks to CMU's 5, but could not find the tying goal.
- Brandeis senior goalkeeper Tyler Correnti (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) made 2 saves for Brandeis, while CMU's Kai Yamamoto turned away 3 shots to earn the shutout for the visitors.
- Senior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) led the Judges with four shots, while junior Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y./Milton Acad.), senior Elan Romo (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay), and sophomore Dylan Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica/Suffield Academy) each recorded one shot on goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The result marked Brandeis's first home loss of the season.
- The Judges were shut out for just the third time this year.
- In the all-time series vs. the Tartans, the Judges hold a 9-9-1 home record, but trail the overall series 14-19-5.
