Corner kicks costly as #13 men fall to #7 Chicago, 3-2

CHICAGO, Ill. – The #13-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team came up just shy in a back-and-forth UAA contest on the road Sunday afternoon at Stagg Field, narrowly defeated 3–2 by the #7 University of Chicago Maroons.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 9–3–4, 1–3–2 UAA, ranked #13 in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches
  • Chicago, 11–1–5, 4–0–2 UAA, ranked #7 in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chicago grabbed a 1–0 lead in the 18th minute when a Brandeis own goal off a corner kick found the back of the net.
  • A second own goal on another corner just three minutes later doubled the Maroons' advantage.
  • The Judges fought back in the second half. In the 48th minute, junior Juan Vera (Caracas, Venezuela/Cypress Bay (Fla.)) got the Judges on the board with a low rebound shot to the center of the net, assisted by junior Keller Chamovitz (Sewickly, Pa./Quaker Valley), cutting the deficit to 2–1.
  • In the 63rd minute, senior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) tied the game with a long-range kick off a pass from senior Elan Romo (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay), making it 2–2.
  • However, Chicago regained the lead ten minutes later when Chase Perry scored low to the left corner in the 73rd minute to put the Maroons back on top, 3–2.
  • Brandeis nearly tied the match in the final seconds when Chamovitz fired a low shot on goal right before the buzzer, but Chicago goalkeeper Ali Alamery made the save to preserve the Maroons' win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Brandeis outshot Chicago 15–9 and held an 8–3 edge in shots on goal, but the two early OGs proved to be the difference in the game.
  • Junior Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y./Milton Academy) led the Judges with three shots, including one shot on goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Tyler Correnti (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) made two saves for Brandeis, while Chicago's Ali Alamery recorded six.
  • For the second consecutive year, the two teams ended with the same 3–2 result, with Chicago coming out on top once again.
  • Osselmann-Chai's goal tied him with senior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) for the team lead in points, each with 11 this season. Osselmann-Chai also leads the Judges with 32 shots and ranks second on the team in goals (4).
UP NEXT
  • The Judges close out their 2025 regular season on the road next weekend, traveling to New York City to face NYU on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m., in their final UAA matchup of the year.
