CLEVELAND, Ohio – Brandeis University senior
Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) moved into ninth on the Judges career kills list as the Judges dropped a pair of University Athletic Association matches to NYU and the University of Chicago at Case Western Reserve today. Both matches were decided in three sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs NYU (25-14, 25-21, 25-19)
- The Violets took control of the first set with a 5-0 run that took a 5-3 deficit to an 8-5 lead. They eventually went ahead, 21-10, and cruised to the 11-point win, 25-14.
- The Judges got off to a hot start in the second set, winning eight of the first 12 points to take an 8-4 lead after scoring four in a row on the serve of sophomore Madison Haft-Abromovitch (Stamford, Conn./Rye Country Day School).
- NYU battled back to tie things up at 14-all. Brandeis won the next point on a kill by Ertischek to go ahead, 15-14.
- NYU closed on a 10-7 run, including four of the last five points after Brandeis narrowed their deficit to 21-20 on a kill by first-year Katya Belyakova (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph Hill Acad.).
- Brandeis started fast again in the third set, taking a 7-3 lead, but a 9-1 run by the Violets put them ahead, 12-8.
- The Judges would rally again, edging ahead, 19-18, on a block by Haft-Abromovitch and first-year Colette Ejang (Los Angeles, Calif./Taft Charter School).
- NYU called timeout, and the Violets closed out the match with a 7-0 run on the serve of Sarah Beville, who delivered four aces in the decisive streak.
- Ertischek was the only player in the match with double-digit kills with 10, while Haft-Abromovitch and Ejang each had six.
- Overall, NYU only had a 32-31 advantage in kills, but they had a 14-2 margin in service aces and 9-5 in blocks. They also committed 14 attack errors to 23 for the Judges.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs CHICAGO (26-24, 25-23, 25-20)
- In the second match of the day against Chicago, the teams were separated by just nine points across the three sets, with the first two coming down to two-point margins.
- Brandeis was again even with their opponents in kills, with the Judges owning a 38-37 lead, but the Maroons had just 20 errors to 25 for Brandeis.
- UC had the better of net play with eight blocks to Brandeis's one, while service aces were six aside, but Brandeis had seven service errors to two for the Maroons.
- In the opening set, Brandeis came from 10-3 down to eventually take a 20-18 lead. Chicago got the lead back after a string of Brandeis errors made it 24-21.
- The Judges held off the first three set points as Belyakova caught fire, converting three-straight kills to tie the match at 24, but Chicago was able to clinch the next two points to take it, 26-24.
- Brandeis erased an early 5-2 deficit in the second set, but the Maroons had a 10-2 run after the Judges tied things at 9-all that gave UC a 19-12 lead.
- The Judges were able to close within 23-22 after a Chicago error, but they couldn't come all the way back in a 25-23 loss.
- Chicago never trailed in the third set after an early 4-2 deficit. They scored six of the next eight points and didn't look back, taking it 25-20.
- Ertischek tied for match-high honors with 15 kills. She ended the day with 1145 kills, surpassing Naomi Skolnick '01 for ninth on the all-time list.
- Belyakova established a new career-high with seven kills.
- Sophomore Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) had 32 assists and three service aces.
