Volleyball rolls past Suffolk, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University volleyball team had one of its most decisive wins of the season tonight, defeating host Suffolk University in three sets, 25-11, 25-19, 25-19, on the road in Boston.

  • Brandeis, 8-13.
  • Suffolk, 7-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges held an opponent under 50 points for the first time this season, including their lowest scoring set of the season in the first.
  • Brandeis hit .194 in the opener, while forcing the Rams into negative range.
  • In the closer second set, Suffolk went on a 7-2 run to take a 13-12 lead, but the Judges responded with an 8-2 streak of their own, going ahead, 20-15, and hanging on for the 25-19 win.
  • Suffolk got off to another fast start in the third, winning five of the first six points and owning a 9-4 lead early on.
  • The Rams were still ahead, 14-12, when Brandeis scored three in a row to take their first lead since 1-0 at 15-14.
  • Suffolk answered with two more points to go back ahead, 16-15, but the Judges closed the match with a 10-3 string to close it out, 25-19.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Senior Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) led all players with 14 kills, while adding three service aces and 10 digs, for her sixth double-double of the season.
  • First-year Colette Ejang (Los Angeles, Calif./Taft Charter School) added 10 kills, reaching double figures for the third time in the last five matches.
  • Ejang also had three blocks, tied for team-high honors with sister Claudia Ejang (Los Angeles, Calif./Taft Charter School).
  • Sophomore Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) had 27 assists, while first-year libero Lara Demoraes (Plantation, Fla./Cypress Bay) had 17 digs.
  • The Judges had 38 kills to 24 for Suffolk and outhit the Rams, .198 (38 K-18 E-101 TA) to .054 (24 K-19 E-93 TA), for the match.

  • The Judges will be off for a week before hosting Simmons College next Thursday evening for Senior Day.
