#8 women's soccer drops Homecoming contest to #2 Emory

WALTHAM, Mass. – The #8-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team took a 3–0 loss to undefeated #2-ranked Emory University on Saturday afternoon in a UAA matchup at Gordon Field for Homecoming.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Sophia Cho converted a high shot to the center of the goal off a feed from Madison Teng to make it 1–0.
  • The turning point in the game came in the 52nd minute. Brandeis sophomore Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) was pulled down in the box, earning a penalty kick. Emory goalkeeper Sophia Garcia made a leaping save on an attempt to the upper left of the goal.
  • The Eagles defended the ensuing corner kick well, and they doubled their advantage on the counterattack in the 54th minute as Jaymie Frith finished a low strike to the left corner, putting home a rebound off a shot by Emory Bozzuti.
  • Emory sealed the result in the 74th minute when Zia Tomlin netted another low shot to the left side, extending the lead to 3–0.
  • Brandeis goalkeeper junior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./ Creekside) turned in a strong effort between the posts with six saves, keeping the Judges within reach against one of the nation's top offenses.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Logan's six saves marked her second-highest total of the season.
  • Emory remains unbeaten through 12 games, while Brandeis continues to seek its first UAA win this season.

  • The Judges hit the road next weekend for another UAA matchup, traveling to Rochester, N.Y., to face the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 18th, at 1:30 p.m.
