Kennedy leads Judges against top-ranked NYU in 95-41 loss

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team ran into the top-ranked team in Division III at New York University, and the Violets showed why they are looking to win a second-straight national championship with a 95-41 win in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Violets led from wire-to-wire in this one, outscoring Brandeis 32-13 in the first period and never looking back.
  • The hosts outscored Brandeis 21-6 in the second and 24-8 in the third, with the final quarter being the closest, 18-14.
  • The Judges were led in scoring by junior Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay), who scored nine points.
  • Senior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), junior Caitlin Gresko (Howell, N.J./Howell) and first-year Saviah Shabazz (Plano, Texas/Plano East) each scored six points.
  • Ohm led the Judges with 10 rebounds, one shy of game-high honors, while senior Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) had nine boards, including five on the offensive glass, as Brandeis hung close with NYU on the boards, trailing only 46-41.
  • NYU, which outshot Brandeis 48.1% to 26.7% from the field and 40% to 18.2% from 3-point range, put six different players in double digits in scoring – all five starters and one reserve.
  • Jamie Behar led all players with 16 points, while Mary Kate Fahey had 15 off the bench. Belle Pellechia had 14 points and Natalie Bruns had 13. Caroline Peper and Brooke Batchelor netted 10 each.
  • Batchelor also had a game-high 11 rebounds, while Bruns had eight assists and five steals.
  • NYU's defense won the turnover battle, 30-10, converting them into a 37-5 scoring advantage.
