Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team competed in the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional at Tufts over the weekend.
The Judges' top performance came from graduate student
Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) and first-year
Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei School Modiin), who reached the quarterfinals of the doubles draw. The duo earned a 9-16 seed and a bye into the second round. They defeated a pair from Trinity, 8-3, in their first match and a Middlebury pair in the Round of 16, 8-6, to reach the second day of competition. They went to a tiebreaker with a team from host Tufts in the quarterfinals, but the Jumbos prevailed, 8-7 (7-5).
In singles action, Walters entered the tournament as the second seed. He defeated Alex Park of Bates, 6-2, 3-2, with the latter retiring. Walters was upset in the second round by Derin Acarglu of the home team, Tufts, 6-2, 7-5. Shemesh also reached the second round with a 7-5, 6-1, win over Phakin Thongbooncharoen of Springfield, but fell to Ed Opie of Amherst, a 9-16 seed, 6-4, 6-2.
Sophomore
Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) reached the Round of 16 in the 'B' singles draw, defeating opponents from Wiliams, 8-6, and MIT, 8-4, before losing to eventual champion Eddie Wang of Babson, 8-2.
The Judges are done until their annual spring break trip to California in February.
