#23 women get back to winning ways, 3-1, at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (info taken from a Bridgewater State press release) – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored three times early in halves tonight as the 23rd-ranked Judges defeated host Bridgewater State University, 3-1, to close out a four-game road trip tonight.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 5-1, ranked #23 in Division III by United Soccer Coaches.
  • Bridgewater State, 2-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges opened the scoring with two goals in the first 6:20 of the game.
  • Sophomore Ali Pennella (Stamford, Conn./Greenwich) netted her first goal of the season just 81 seconds into the contest.
  • Pennella took a through pass from classmate Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School) and beat Bears' junior goalkeeper one-on-one. Senior back Rachel Watler (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) also picked up an assist on the play.
  • With her assist, Raju has registered at least one point in all six Brandeis games this season.
  • First-year Laurene Creteau (Madison, N.J./Madison) made it 2-0 nearly five minutes later. She dribbled in from midfield and fired a left-footed shot just inside the 18 that went off the inside of the left post.
  • Bridgewater State got within 2-1 at 32:36 when junior Olivia Robarge got behind the defense and one-touched a shot inside the right post. The goal was set up by senior Sydney Dewhurst  off a restart with a long volley from the BSU defensive zone.
  • Brandeis closed the scoring out 2:35 into the second half when Watler scored her third of the season with Creteau picking up the assist.
  • Watler lofted a shot from the right side 40 yards out that went over the outstretched hands of Levesque and inside the far post.
  • Levesque made eight saves while Brandeis grad transfer keeper Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y./Somers) stopped four shots.
  • The Judges had a 25-8 edge in shots and 12-5 in shots on goal with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • With the win, Brandeis extended its winning streak over BSU to 11 in a row.
  • The Judges have outscored their opponents 24-5 this season.
