Second-half surge leads men past ECSU, 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Thanks to a three-point performance by sophomore Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y./Milton Academy), the Brandeis University men's soccer team scored three second-half goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 3-1, in non-conference action on Gordon Field today.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 3-1-1.
  • Eastern Connecticut, 1-2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis controlled the run of play in the first half, but it was the visiting Warriors who found the back of the net in the 27th minute.
  • Sophomore Sebastian Kadlof delivered a perfect through-ball to first-year Eliot Kadlof, who dribbled to net and sent a right-footed shot inside the near left post and past a diving Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
  • Brandeis scored the equalizer and go-ahead goal in a span of 2:33 early in the second half.
  • In the 55th minute, junior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) delivered a cross from the right sideline that Chuang one-timed home for his second goal of the season.
  • In the 57th minute, junior Rainer Osselmann-Chai took a shot that was saved by ECSU senior Nathan Yeich. The ensuing rebound fell to Beninda with a wide-open net, but Yeich fouled Beninda to prevent the goal momentarily, drawing a yellow card in the process. Osselmann-Chai delivered the ensuing penalty kick to Yeich's left for his first goal of the season.
  • After withstanding some pressure from Eastern Connecticut, the Judges earned an insurance goal in the 78th minute. Chuang fed a ball to first-year Yoav Feingold (Wellesley, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) from the left flank. Feingold's shot from 20 yards out deflected off an ECSU defender and past substitute goalkeeper Jack Harmon. It was Feingold's first collegiate goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Wrabley earned a win in the third-straight game for the Judges with one save.
  • Yeich had four saves in 70-plus minutes for ECSU, while Harmon had one stop in just under 20 minutes.
  • This was the first collegiate three-point game for Chuang.
  • The Judges' 3-1-1 start is their best since 2019.
