Late Godinho goal helps men salvage draw, 1-1, at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team got a goal with just over two minutes left in regulation today to help the Judges salvage a 1-1 draw on the road against Union College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges were on the front foot for much of the first half, outshooting Union, 7-5, but the Garnet Chargers took the lead in the 28th minute.
  • Union's Alexander Vittal got in behind the Brandeis defense on the left side of the field to go one-on-one against Brandeis senior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley). Vittal hit a low shot to the right of the goal and under a diving Wrabley for his second goal of the season.
  • Brandeis pressed in the second half, when they had an 8-2 shooting advantage on the Garnet Chargers.
  • The Judges finally broke through with just 2:09 left in regulation. After Brandeis drew a free kick on the right side of the field, junior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) delivered a service into the box. Senior back Christian Godinho (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) got a head on the ball in the left of the box and delivered it into the far netting.
  • The goal was Godinho's first of his career.
  • Wrabley made a late save on Vittal with just 1:10 left to help secure the draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Judges finished with a 15-7 shooting advantage, including 12-6 in shots on goal.
  • Wrabley finished with five saves, while Union's Jackon Magee was tremendous with 11 stops.
  • Brandeis had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks and committed 14 fouls to 11 for the Garnet Chargers.
  • Brandeis and Union were meeting for the first time since 1986. Union leads the all-time series, 1-2-1.
