#23 women's soccer wins first game as ranked team in 2024, 4-2, at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored four times in the first 45 minutes tonight as the #23-ranked Judges won their first match as a nationally-ranked squad this season, 4-2, at Clark University.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 4-0, ranked #23 in Division III by United Soccer Coaches.
  • Clark, 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis opened its scoring in the 12th minute on a goal by first-year Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School). Leroy received a ball over the top from sophomore Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School), took a touch towards goal and finished from just outside the 18-yard box over the keeper's hands. It was her third goal of the season, and Raju's second assist.
  • Senior back Rachel Watler (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) doubled the lead in the 26th minute with her second goal of the season. Watler's shot from outside the box also went high over the keeper.
  • In the 32nd minute, Leroy netted her second of the game, and it proved to be the game-winner. Leroy volleyed home Watler's corner kick for her fourth collegiate goal, and second career multi-goal game.
  • Clark's Georgia Louis snapped the Judges' shutout streak at 309 minutes when she scored in the 39th minute to cut the deficit to two.
  • Brandeis got that goal back just as time expired in the half. Watler sent a free kick into the box. After the Clark keeper punched it away, sophomore Selena Santiago (Wadsworth, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) punched it home for her second goal of the season.
  • Clark added a goal in the 73rd minute, but the Judges saw the game out with no further action.
  • The Judges outshot the Cougars, 20-6, including 15-3 in shots on goal.
  • Graduate transfer Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y./Somers) had one save in net for Brandeis to improve to 4-0 on the season. Clark's Annabella White made 11 stops in the losing effort.
UP NEXT
  • The 23rd-ranked Judges will face their stiffest test of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face 4th-ranked MIT in Cambridge.
