Juniors pace men's soccer past Bridgewater State, 2-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team won its second-straight game tonight, defeating visiting Bridgewater State University, 2-0, on Gordon Field, thanks to goals in each half, with the junior class picking up all six points on the evening.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 2-1-1.
  • Bridgewater State, 1-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges got all the scoring they would need in the 38th minute thanks to a pair of junior reserves. Transfer forward Josh Andrews (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) served a corner kick into the box, and midfielder Slater Loffredo (North Hampton, N.H./Northwood School) headed it into the far netting to put Brandeis in the lead.
  • The goal was Loffredo's first of his career, while the assist was Andrews' second of the season.
  • The Judges added a key insurance goal in the 63rd minute. After controlling play for much of the second half, junior forward Elan Romo (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) took a shot from the left side that looked to be going wide of the far post. Classmate Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) charged in from outside of the box and redirected it home.
  • It was Beninda's third goal of the season, all coming in the last two games. He now has six goals for his career.
  • The Judges outshot BSU, 12-4, including 5-2 in shots on goal. Brandeis also had six corner kicks to none for the visitors.
  • Brandeis senior goalkeeper Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) made two saves for his second shutout of the season and the sixth of his career. Bridgewater State's Lukas Ekmanis made two stops for the Bears, while one Brandeis shot was cleared off the line by a defender.
  • Brandeis improved to 15-4-3 all-time against Bridgewater State, including 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they play host to Eastern Connecticut State University.
