#40 women's tennis wins second-straight against ranked opponent, 7-2, over #29 Wellesley

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second match in a row, the Brandeis University women's tennis team knocked off a team ranked ahead of them in the ITA Division III rankings, as the #40 Judges defeated #29 Wellesley, 7-2, indoors in the Gosman Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges got off to a fast start by sweeping the doubles matches. The team of junior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and sophomore Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy), ranked second in the Northeast Region, improved to 14-2 this season with a 8-2 win at #1.
  • Sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) teamed with junior Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) for an 8-3 win at #3.
  • Junior Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) and sophomore Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai International) completed the sweep, 8-4, at #2.
  • Suarez outlasted Wellesley's Annissa Mu in a marathon second-set tiebreaker to earn a win at #1, 6-1, 7-6 (12-10).
  • With matches at #2 and #3 going three sets, Brandeis clinched on the same court as Suarez when Zhang made quick work of her opponent, Emilee Pak, 6-1, 6-0.
  • The Blue picked up their two wins by claiming the third set in both the #2 and #3.
  • The Judges rounded out the match with two wins at the bottom of the lineup. First-year Lika Bolkvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/The European-American High School) edged her opponent, 6-4, 7-5, at #5. Junior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatoli College) rounded out the victory, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, with a third-set super tiebreaker at #6.
