TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 5-26, 0-12 UAA.
- Washington U: 23-12-1, 7-4-1 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- WashU 1B Henry Mauterer scored the Bears' first two runs.
- In the first inning, he singled, stole second, and scored when a pick-off attempt went awry.
- In the fourth, he was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a double and scored on a grounder to shortstop.
- Decker-Jacoby held the visitors in check, giving Brandeis a chance to get back in the game, which they did in the bottom of the sixth.
- Brandeis sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored six times on six hits. The Judges tied the game on a two-run home run to right field by graduate student RF Jake Freed (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson).
- The next three Brandeis hitters reached base, with graduate student 3B Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde) doubling to left to give the Judges the 3-2 lead. Three batters later, with the bases loaded again, first-year 2B Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) drew a walk to make it 4-2.
- Sophomore Alex Kim (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and first-year Patrick Schultz (Milton, Mass./Roxbury Latin) followed with a single and a sacrifice fly to give the hosts a 6-2 lead.
- WashU got one run back in the eighth, loading the bases on a hit and two walks. They scored on a wild pitch, but Decker-Jacoby got a call third struck to get out of the inning without further damage.
- In the ninth, WashU got to the Brandeis bullpen. They again loaded the bases without a hit, drawing two more walks and a hit batter. A two-run double by shortstop Shane Pellegrino got them within 6-5. Another walk to Mauterer loaded the bases again, and the visitors took the lead on a two-run double by Clayton Miller and extended it to 9-6 on a two-run single by centerfielder Brandon Buday.
- Miller struck out the side in the ninth to secure the win and the series sweep for WashU.
