Burdenski's eighth blast of the season not enough against #10 Case

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University softball sophomore centerfielder Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) had a double and a home run today, but the Judges could not contain the offense of visiting 10th-ranked Case Western Reserve University in a 14-1 UAA loss on Marcus Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Spartans scored runs in every inning, outhitting the Judges 15-4.
  • Burdenski was responsible for Brandeis's lone run with a solo home run in the third inning. It was her eighth of the season, tied for the team lead and tied for second in the UAA.
  • She also had a double in the first inning, but the Judges were unable to convert it into a run.
  • Sophomore RF Maddie Manes (San Clemente, Calif./San Juan Hills) and junior 2B Fiona Doiron (Charlton, Mass./Marianapolis Prep) had the Judges other two hits.
  • CWRU was paced by 2B KaiLi Gross, who went 3-3 with two run scored, five RBI, two doubles and a triple.
  • Catcher Jordon Manworren was 2-2 with two run scored, two RBI and a double.
  • LF Stevie Rieger and 1B Isabella Russo also had two hits for the Spartans.
  • Case Western Reserve sophomore Devanghi Misra earned the win with two innings of two-hit relief, allowing the Judges' only run. She struck out two without a walk.
  • Starter Lexi Miskey allowed one hit in two innings with three Ks, while Jenna Jaklich allowed one hit and struck out two in the fifth inning.
  • Brandeis starter Ragini Kannan (Westford, Mass./Westford) took the loss, falling to 8-8 on the season, giving up nine hits and nine runs in three innings. She walked three without a strikeout.

  • Brandeis and Case Western Reserve will conclude their UAA series tomorrow at 11 a.m., with the Judges celebrating their Senior Day before the contest.
