WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University softball team dropped both ends of a University Athletic Association doubleheader today against 10
th-ranked Case Western Reserve, 6-2 in the opener and 14-3 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME ONE (6-2, CWRU)
- The Spartans opened the scoring in game one in the third inning on a two-run home run by first-year shortstop Karen Potts.
- Right fielder Nylah Durham added an RBI double in the fourth, while 3B Elizabeth Berry had an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from 1B Isabella Russo in the fifth, putting the visitors ahead, 6-0.
- The Judges, who were held to just one hit through the first four innings by CWRU starter Lexi Miskey, got to reliever Devanghi Misra in the bottom of the seventh. Junior catcher Tristan Boyer (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) singled with one out, and classmate 2B Fiona Doiron (Charlton, Mass./Marianapolis) followed with a double. Misra got the second out on a pop-up before sophomore RF Maddie Manes (San Clemente, Calif./San Juan Hills) delivered a two-run single to end the shutout bid. Misra got a comebacker to the circle to end the game.
- Case Western Reserve outhit Brandeis, 10-5, in the contest, with Potts, Berry and Russo each picking up two hits, as did 2B KaiLi Gross.
- Brandeis's lone multiple hitter was Doiron, whose double was the team's only extra-base hit.
- Sophomore Ragini Kannan (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) took the loss in the circle, falling to 8-7 on the season. She allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned) in seven innings, walking four and striking out four. She threw 124 pitches in her 14th complete game of the season.
- Miskey allowed just one hit over four innings to improve to 15-3 on the season. She struck out six, walked one and hit one batter. Misra earned her first save of the campaign, allowing four hits and two runs in three innings of work. She struck out one and walked one.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME TWO (14-3, CWRU)
- The Spartans' offense exploded for 14 runs and 20 hits, producing a pair of five-run innings.
- The visitors took an early lead in the top of the first, as Potts singled to lead off the game, stole second and scored on consecutive ground-outs.
- Brandeis got one run back in the third on an RBI single by Doiron, but they left the bases loaded.
- CWRU blew things open when nine batters came to the plate in the fourth, scoring five times on six hits. Four of the five runs came with two out, as Potts, Gross and LF Stevie Rieger hit back-to-back-to-back doubles, making it 6-1 in favor of the Spartans.
- Brandeis got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth when a Spartan runner left early trying to tag and score on a line-out to left.
- The Judges responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double by shortstop Anna Kolb (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) and a ball hit by Boyer that went through the 3B's legs for an error, making it 6-3.
- The Spartans scored eight runs over the next two innings, including Potts' second home run of the day, a solo shot in the five-run seventh.
- Brandeis got one runner on via a walk in the bottom of the seventh before the game was called due to darkness.
- The visitor rapped out 20 hits to six for the Judges. Potts went 4-4 with four runs scored, two RBI, two doubles and a home run, while 3B Elizabeth Berry was 5-5 with a run scored, two RBI and a double.
- Brandeis's six hits came from three players – Doiron, Kolb and CF Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) each had two. Kolb scored two runs, while Burdenski walked twice. The Judges drew seven walks as a team, but were only able to score two of them.
- Brandeis senior Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) took the loss, falling to 5-9 on the season, throwing 136 pitches in the complete-game performance.
- Kylie Hosey improved to 11-2 on the campaign with five innings of six-hit work. She allowed three runs (two earned) and struck out three while walking five.

- The Judges and Spartans will meet for the third game in the four-game series tomorrow at 3 p.m., in order to give the field time to dry out after expected rain.
