Violets outslug Judges to complete four-game sweep

WALTHAM, Mass – The visiting NYU baseball team took a pair of University Athletic Association contests from host Brandeis University today, defeating the Judges 18-6 and 16-4. Both games ended early because of the UAA's 10-run rule.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 4-22, 0-8 UAA.
  • NYU: 20-9, 7-5 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After getting rained out on Friday and playing the first two games of the series at Waltham High School yesterday, the teams finally met on Stein Diamond today.
  • The Violets were efficient with their offense today, scoring their 34 runs on just 28 hits, as Brandeis pitchers issued 20 walks. Eleven of their hits went for extra bases, including six doubles and five home runs.
  • The top hitters on the day for NYU were

  • Offensively for Brandeis three players had two-hits games on the day.
    • Graduate student 3B Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde) was 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the opener.
    • First-year LF Tobei Nakajima (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Game 1.
    • Grad student 1B Eddie Zanor (Branford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) was 2-3 with a run scored in Game 2.
  • On the mound, NYU got wins from Andrew Reid and Joe Cetale.
    • Reid threw 5.1 innings in the first game, allowing seven runs and six hits. He struck out five and walked six to improve to 5-0 on the season.
    • Cetale tossed five innings of four-hit ball. He allowed two unearned runs, striking out four without walking a batter.
  • Brandeis's losses were taken by
    • Sophomore Tyler Hill (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College High School) in the opener (1.2 IP in relief, 3 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 1 K), falling to 0-1; and
