WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team established a season-high in runs and hits in the opener of a doubleheader today, but visiting NYU rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth and won it with a grand slam in the 10
th, 19-16, in the opener of a University Athletic Association doubleheader today. The Violets also won game two, 15-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1 (NYU, 19-16)
- The Game 1 slugfest lasted 3 hours and 34 minutes as the teams combined for 35 runs and 39 hits and saw 13 different pitchers used – eight for NYU and five for Brandeis.
- The lead changed hands four different times, including once in the first inning. NYU's Nate Pallotta hit a solo home run in the top of the first, but Brandeis graduate student Eddie Zanor (Branford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame.
- Brandeis extended its lead to 5-1 in the second on an RBI single by sophomore Alex Kim (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and a two-run single by Zanor.
- NYU scored three times in the third to get within 5-4, then took the lead with four more runs in the fourth, including Pallotta's second RBI double in as many frames.
- Trailing 8-4, Brandeis got one run back on an RBI single from grad student Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde) to make if 8-5.
- The Violets looked to put things away with a six-run sixth inning that gave them a 14-6 lead.
- Brandeis didn't back down, starting with a three-run home run by King in the bottom of the sixth that made it 14-9.
- In the seventh, the Judges sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on four hits, three walks, three wild pitches and a balk. Zanor had another two-RBI hit in the inning to give him six for the game, while first-year Henry Aronwald (Rye Brook, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) delivered a two-run double to left-center that put Brandeis on top, 15-14.
- Sophomore reliever Tyler Hill (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College High School) shut down NYU in the eighth inning, but the Violets got to Judge senior Sean Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif./Vistimar) for a run in the ninth, as Richard Beggy hit a ground-rule double to lead off the inning. One out later, Beggy stole third, allowing him to score on a sacrifice fly by Connor Roggero to tie the game at 15-15.
- Brandeis got two runners on in the ninth on a hit batter and a single off the pitcher, but could not push ahead the winning run, forcing extra innings.
- In the top of the 10th against Decker-Jacoby, NYU got a one-out walk and a double to put two runners in scoring position. After an intentional walk to Cam Dunn loaded the bases, Pallotta homered to deep center field for a grand slam and a 19-15 lead.
- Brandeis loaded the bases on three-straight singles to open the inning, but NYU reliever Ansel Balmer got a strikeout for the first out of the inning. Balmer walked King to bring the winning run to the plate, but he struck out the next two batters to secure the win.
- Brandeis's Zanor and NYU's Pallotta each tied a UAA record with five hits in the game, both going 5-7.
- Zanor finished with six RBI, while Pallotta drove in seven.
- King added five RBI for the Judges, while Dunn scored five runs for NYU, tying a UAA record.
- NYU's Tyler Tedeschi earned the win, allowing three hits and one run in two innings of work. He improved to 1-0. Balmer picked up his second save of the season. Decker-Jacoby took the loss, falling to 1-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- Game two was nearly as long as the first, lasting another 3-and-a-half hours.
- The Judges struck first when graduate student Jake Freed (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) walked, then stole second, third and home in the same inning.
- The Violets came right back in the second when Alex VanLandingham blasted a two-run home run. Harrison Blueweiss followed later in the inning with a sacrifice fly that saw an error allowing a second run to score.
- Blueweiss drove in two more runs with a single in the third inning, while Nick Argenziano's sacrifice fly made it 7-1.
- NYU added single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 9-1 before the Judges cut into their deficit with a four-run sixth.
- Brandeis got RBI doubles from first-year players Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) and Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven), while two more runs came home on wild pitches to make if 9-5.
- The visitors expanded their lead again with two runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth, including a home run by Dunn, that gave them a 15-6 lead. Brandeis scored once in the ninth, but it wasn't nearly enough in the 15-7 loss.
- Arvin Chona earned the win in the first decision of his collegiate career, with 1.1 innings of relief work. Brandeis first-year Andrew Tringe (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) suffered the loss to fall to 0-6.
- VanLandingham went 4-4 with two run scored, three RBI and the home run for NYU, while Aronwald was Brandeis's top performer, going 3-5 with a run scored. Crowley had two doubles for the Judges.

- The two teams will meet tomorrow at noon for another UAA doubleheader, delayed an hour to give the teams some extra rest after the long day today.
