Women's tennis downs Trinity (Conn.) for second-straight 9-0 decision

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team won its second-straight 9-0 match this afternoon as the Judges blanked Trinity College, 9-0, on the indoor courts of the Gosman Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second day in a row, the Judges won without dropping a set as they lost two or fewer games 12 of the 15 sets in the match.
  • In doubles action, first-year Mandy Reyes (Barcelona, Spain / Laurel Springs School) and sophomore Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) swept their opponent, 8-0, at #2, while first-year Chahana Budhbatti (Ahmedabad, India/ Aavishkar School) and junior Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) were 8-1 victors at #3.
  • The tightest set of the match came at #1 doubles, where sophomore Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) and junior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) picked up an early break and then held on for am 8-6 win over Ella Baker and Josephine Kimball of the Bantams.
  • In singles action, Budhbatti helped the Judges get to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1, win at #3, while Parwani earned her fourth win in two days for the Judges with a 6-2, 6-2, win at #2 for the clincher.
  • Suarez earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at #1 to complete the sweep at the top of the order. It was her first full match in more than a month.
  • Zhang won, 6-2, 6-1, at #4, while first-year Lika Bolkvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia / The European School-American High School) was a 6-2, 6-2, winner at #5.
  • Junior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) closed out the win with the longest match of the day, a 6-1, 7-5, win at #6.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges continue their five game homestand next Saturday at 10 a.m. against their University Athletic Association rivals from NYU.
