Women's tennis roars past Springfield, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team took on visiting Springfield College today in the Gosman Athletic Center and the Judges earned a sweep of the Pride, 9-0, with 10 different players contributing to the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges started with a doubles sweep, losing just four games in the process. First-year Mandy Reyes (Barcelona, Spain / Laurel Springs School) and sophomore Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) started with am 8-2 win at #2.
  • Brandeis's top-rated tandem of sophomore Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) and junior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) improved to 11-2 on the season with an 8-0 win.
  • Juniors Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) and Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou School) closed out the doubles win with an 8-2 victory at #3.
  • The Judges clinched the overall match victory with wins at #2 and #3, as first-year Lika Boldkvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/The European School-American High School) won, 6-2, 6-2, and junior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) took her match, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Parwani was the only Judge to play both singles and doubles, taking a 6-2, 6-2, win at #1 singles.
  • At the bottom half of the lineup first-year Sanjana Kumar (Phoenix, Ariz. / Sandra Day O Connor) won 12-straight games at #5, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Seniors Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) and Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) closed out the match with the two longest contests of the day. Subramanian won, 6-1, 6-4, at #4 and Zhang took a 7-5, 6-2, decision at #6 to close things out.
