WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball trailed by 13 points late in the third quarter, but the Judges outscored visiting Carnegie Mellon, 26-13, in the fourth period to earn the Judges their first University Athletic Association (UAA) win of the season, 72-70, in Red Auerbach Arena tonight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges and Tartans played close in the first half. CMU led, 21-16, after the first period, and the advantage was still five at halftime, 35-30.
- Brandeis sophomore Caitlin Gresko (Howell, N.J./Howell) kept the Judges in the contest with nine points in the first quarter and seven more in the second for game-high 16 points at the break. CMU's Anisha Chintala had 11 points, while Catherine Or had nine.
- Brandeis hit seven 3-pointers in the first half, compared to just two for the Tartans. The Judges also had a 9-2 turnover advantage in the opening 20 minutes. Both stats helped to offset Carnegie Mellon's 30-12 rebounding advantage.
- In the third quarter, the Tartans looked to put the game away, as they hit 10-of-13 from the field (77%) while holding the Judges to 7-of-18 (39%). Kayla Delmore had six points for the visitors, including the bucket with 22 seconds left in the stanza to give them their largest lead of 13 points at 57-44.
- Brandeis sophomore Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) had a putback with 2 seconds to go in the third, helping to spark the comeback as Brandeis close within 57-46.
- The Judges quickly got back in the game in the fourth, scoring the first eight points of the quarter. First-year Claire Candela (Maynard, Mass./Milton Academy) hit a pair of 3-pointers and junior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) had a driving lay-up to close Brandeis within 57-53 with just 2:04 elapsed in the period.
- CMU was able to keep Brandeis at bay until the 4:02 mark of the fourth, when graduate student Francesca Marchese (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island) buried her third trifecta of the game to tie things up at 61-all.
- Brandeis sophomore Katherine Vaughan (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) got a steal on the next CMU possession and scored on a feed from Ohm to give Brandeis its first lead since early in the first period, 63-61, with 3:46 to go.
- Ohm hit another bucket to make it a four-point game with just over three minutes to go, and Brandeis hit just enough free throws, with a key lay-up from Kennedy with just under a minute to go helping the Judges to their first conference win of the season.
- After allowing the Tartans their hot shooting in the third, Brandeis contained the visitors' offense to 24% from the field in the fourth (4-17), while putting together their best period of the night, hitting 53% (8-15), including 67% from 3-point range (4-6).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges saw four different players score in double figures, paced by Gresko's 19. She hit 6-of-17 overall, 5-of-8 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the line. She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Ohm added 13 points, five rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Seven of her 13 points and three of her helpers came in the fourth quarter.
- Marchese finished with 12 points and three 3-pointers. She now has 163 trifectas for her career, leaving her four shy of second place on Brandeis's career list and six out of the top spot.
- Kennedy netted 11 points off the bench, giving her a career-high for the second game in a row.
- Vaughan matched Ohm with five rebounds and also had a career-high four blocked shots. After getting outrebounded 30-12 in the first half, the Judges had the edge on the boards in the second, 21-18.
- The Judges overcame their 48-33 rebounding disadvantage in the game by winning the turnover battle. They committed a season-low eight while forcing 17, giving Brandeis a 19-5 margin in points off turnovers.
- Brandeis surpassed 70 points in a game for the first time since Jan. 2.
- CMU had five double-digit scorers, as Chintala and Or each had 16 points, Savannah Gibbs had 13 and Ava Arias and Delmore each scored 10 points.
- Gibbs led all players on the glass, recording a double-double with 11 boards. Or had four assists, while Arias had four blocked shots.

- The Judges will look for a weekend sweep when they take on Case Western Reserve University on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be a Think Pink contest to raise Breast Cancer Awareness, as the Judges will be holding a raffle to raise money for the Kay Yow Foundation.
